The National Federation of Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs) – Kenya is the statutory national umbrella body established under Section 21 of the Public Benefit Organizations Act, 2013. We unite registered PBOs, NGOs, and self-regulation forums to promote self-regulation, accountability, good governance, and sustainable socio-economic development across Kenya.

Who We Are
The National Federation of PBOs is a non-partisan, self-regulatory organization legally recognized as a body corporate with perpetual succession. We exist to strengthen the PBO/NGO sector by ensuring compliance with the law, enhancing self-regulation, influencing public policy, and fostering collaboration between civil society, government, development partners, and donors.
Our legitimacy is grounded in democratic governance, active member participation, and our commitment to delivering relevant, high-quality, and selfless services to the civil society sector.

Our Mandate
In accordance with the Public Benefit Organizations Act, 2013, the Federation is mandated to:
Provide leadership on matters affecting the PBO and civil society sector
Promote and coordinate self-regulation among registered PBOs
Monitor compliance with the PBO Act, regulations, and codes of conduct
Advise the PBO Authority, Government, and donors on sector development
Facilitate capacity building for PBOs to enhance effectiveness and impact
Represent the collective interests of PBOs at national, regional, and international levels

To galvanize the development sector by strengthening the voluntary and civil society sector through organized civic action, mutual respect, and collective engagement.
